We stayed at the Golden Nugget downtown. It was really a great time. I had never even been downtown, and by now I've seen enough of the strip to not really care if I miss out on seeing all of the sights there. The Golden Nugget was really nice, had plenty of distractions, and there was a big shark tank in the pool. What's not to like? Also, walk out the door and you're on Fremont Street.
We went to see Thunder from Down Under. I have to say, maybe I hadn't had enough drinks, but I thought it was way funnier than it was sexy. Also, there were creepy men hanging out at the bar outside the show, waiting to hit on all the riled-up girls. Gross.
We also spent some time at the Mermaids casino, one of the few places where the slots actually pay out in coins! We thought that was pretty awesome, until I won some money on the nickel slots. What a huge pain in the ass to lug all the coins back to the cash-out station. I went back for the second night and the awesome cocktail waitress already knew my drink order. I love them over there.
On Thursday night, my cousin Liz and I drank some 7-UP out of bottles and then refilled with vodka. After several additional fillings while we sipped, I think the ratio shifted more toward slightly lemon-lime flavored vodka. Needless to say, we had a great time, which culminated in sitting by the pool on lounge chairs in the middle of the night, chatting about various inappropriate topics. Thank goodness I'm not especially hangover-prone.
All in all, it was good fun. Amazing food, drinks, fun and friends (well, technically family). Loved it.
I haven't uploaded any of my own photos yet because I'm supremely lazy and I'm too busy watching Farscape when not working. Hope your weekend was fun too!
Sidenote: I think I'm more interesting when I'm drunk because I got many more @ replies to my drunken tweets than I ever do to my sober ones.
I think that's where they filmed the Vegas episode of Angel! Sigh.
ReplyDeleteOh, you're totally right! Except, in the show, they seem to think it's on the strip, rather than downtown, several miles away.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to watch that episode again now.
Sounds fun! The website's slide show is pretty funny, "Sharks! Girls in bikinis! Sharks! Boobs!"
ReplyDeleteOh man, Thunder from Down Under :D Jonelle and her friends wanted to see a strip show, but did they want to go to the Star Trek experience? Nooo. We opted out of the beefcake eventually anyway, so I guess it was OK.
Meg - if the Star Trek experience was still there (sad that it's gone), I would have dragged everyone with me kicking and screaming or I would have tried to go by myself. I loved it! I even went to the traveling science museum exhibit they created using a bunch of that stuff (plus actual star trek props).
ReplyDeleteI could spend hours just following the timeline.
Re: Star Trek Experience
ReplyDeleteMy friend who lives in Vegas says that whenever she got depressed, she would go hang out in Quark's Bar and it would make her feel better :P
How awesome would that be?!
Plus, she knew a Klingon that worked there, lol.
Booze? Naked Australians? More booze? Sounds like a successful Vegas trip to me!! :D
@mel - It was incredibly successful :). I'm ready to go again!
