Summer Blahs

Kaylee

While the rest of the country gets moody in the winter, I feel like it is the opposite here in Arizona. Triple digit temperatures all day, every day wear on you after a while. We are all trapped inside for most of the day and getting in and out of a hot car is nearly unbearable.

I have been feeling a distinct lack of motivation in most creative areas of my life. In all areas, actually. We have been going through some changes lately and it is hard to get back on track.

Anyone out there have tips to get the motivation back? This is my first step.

  1. Man, I know the lack of motivation. (In fact, my last post was basically the same thing on the photography front.) All I can do in those situations is just jump in and start doing the creative stuff, hoping the "flow" will happen. But that first step (over the hurdle) is always extra hard.

Also, I used to have an orange cat who looked so much like your photo (minus one eye!). He was the feline love of my life. Don't tell that to my current four cats, but there's just something special about the orange ones.

  2. Nice pic of Kaylee :)

I have zero motivation to be creative now too. I was so good last year: wrote for an hour a day for almost 8 months, what happened? Setting time aside each day to be creative worked though, I just got out of the habit. Make it a habit - that's my suggestion and I'll try to follow it too!

Surprisingly, I found Jerry Seinfeld's advice very helpful:

  3. Thanks, guys! I think I need to make creative projects a priority. Since my husband just started his grad school program, I was thinking I would work on creative projects whenever he is working on schoolwork.

Tara - I know what you mean about orange cats, they are special.

  4. Jen, I feel exactly the same way about summer. It's too hot to do anything but be lazy! Ugh. Thankfully it should cool off soon.

I found your blog via Blogging Your Way - I'm taking that class AND I'm also taking the Home Ec class! Seems we have a lot in common :) I'm going to add you to my google reader.

  6. Lindsay - I am so behind in the home ec class. I have only done a couple of pieces. I have a feeling this will be a sewing-filled weekend! Nice to meet you :)
