If you have seen the Pixar movie Cars, you might recognize Hackberry General Store. It's the place Lizzie's Curio Shop was based on. Upon re-watching the movie, I recognized it right away, with its multitude of signs and pumps. Hackberry General Store used to be the source for goods for the tiny town of Hackberry, Arizona. According to their website, this was because it took nearly an entire day to drive the 28 miles to nearby Kingman in an old Model A. Nowadays, it has an enormous collection of Route 66 memorabilia. Since it was (of course) closed when I went, I was grateful that most of the collection is out in the yard. I'm told that you can buy souvenirs and Route 66 Beer (root beer, of course) inside.
I had so much fun in this yard. There was such a great collection, even better than at the Snow Cap. There were not only signs and old gas pumps, but several old cars in the side yard. Driving on the small 2-lane highway through Hackberry was really zen. It was only a couple of days before Christmas and I only saw a couple of other cars the whole time. The light was gorgeous as well.
The above photo would have been so much better if my car was parked elsewhere. D'oh!
I love the photos you took. It makes me want to watch Cars again or go for a long drive with the windows down. Looks like you were the only one there!
ReplyDeleteSwoon! This would make such an awesome engagement photo or trash the dress site!
ReplyDeleteGenius idea!! I would love to do something like that. It would be totally worth the drive to the middle of nowhere.
