I've been trying out some new shows during the summer hiatus, so I watched United States of Tara. I really like Toni Collette, I think she is always an amazing actress, but I was blown away by her performance in this show. I also had it in my head that it was a dark drama, and I could not have been more wrong. It is hilarious. There are some dramatic storylines, but it is definitely a comedy.
It is amazing how Collette transforms herself for the alternate personalities (or alters). There is T, a sex-crazed, permanent 16-year-old, Alice, the quintessential 50's housewife, and Buck, the beer-swilling, chain-smoking, redneck (yeah, he's a dude).
If any of this sounds appealing to you, I would go for it. As a bonus, I will throw in John Corbett, who always plays some variation on his Sex and the City character, Aidan. Not that doing so is a particularly bad thing. I was always on Team Aidan, but I think more for me rather than for Carrie. But I digress...
